Customize containers
A container is a box where panels and toolbars are located. Containers can be floating or docked to the edges of the Rhino window, or next to another container.
To manage a container

Click the gear icon to show the options menu.
Options menu
Horizontal
Display tabs on the top in the current container.
Vertical
Displays tabs on the right side in the current container.
- Horizontal and Vertical options are only available for vertically docked containers.
Show Panels
Lists the panels for you to add or remove in the container.
- This menu item is not available on the containers that only have toolbars.
- You can also right-click on a tab to select panels to show or hide.
Show Toolbars
Lists the toolbars in the selected rui file for you to add or remove in the container.
If you have linked rui files loaded, they will be listed on the drop-down menu on top of the toolbar list.
- If you have linked rui files loaded, they will be listed on the drop-down menu on top of the toolbar list.
- You can also right-click on a tab to select toolbars to show or hide.
New Toolbar
Brings up the toolbar creation wizard that guides you though the steps of creating a new toolbar with buttons from loaded rui libraries.
New Toolbar Button
Brings up the toolbar button creation wizard that guides you though the steps of creating a new toolbar button. You will be asked to add commands for the left and right mouse buttons and set the button properties.
New toolbar Separator
Insert a button separator. Separators only show in horizontal, one-row toolbars. They act like buttons, so you can move or delete them.
Edit Toolbar button
Lists all the buttons in the current toolbar in a menu where you can delete buttons or edit the properties of the selected button.
To delete a button
- Click the x button after the button name when you point the mouse cursor to the button name.
To edit a button
- Select the button to edit in Button Editor.
Size to Content
Expands or shrinks the floating container to fit all the buttons on the active toolbar.
Properties
Opens the Container Properties dialog box to edit the currently active toolbar or panel.
Lock Docked Containers
Toggles the Lock docked containers setting in Toolbar options.
Help
Opens the help topic for the active panel in the container.
Export Container
Saves the current container to a Container Definition (*.rhc) file.
Close <Container Name>
Hides the container.
If the container only has a tab, the container will be deleted.
