Start fresh, do not import any data

Starts Rhino with the default setup without importing settings or other data.

Migrate settings from a previous version

Imports your Rhino setup from a previous version of Rhino installed on this computer. For example, migrating your Rhino 8 setup into Rhino 9. The dialog lists the available Rhino versions so you can choose which version to import the setup from.

Import settings from an RHS file

Imports a Rhino setup from an .rhs file. Use the OptionsExport command to create the .rhs file. This method allows you to transfer your Rhino setup between computers. Cross-platform transfers between Windows and Mac are supported.

Import settings from a backup

Restores your Rhino setup from a backup created in the current version of Rhino. The backups are listed with timestamps for you to choose from. A backup is created each time you perform a factory reset using the Reset command.

• The OptionsMigrate command backs up whatever it replaces first, so your current setup is never lost. If the result is not what you expected, you can migrate back from that backup.

• If you have extensively customized toolbars in the previous version and the migration does not look right, use the Reset command to load a fresh Rhino 9 toolbar set and take advantage of the new toolbars.

OptionsMigrate vs. OptionsImport

Both can read an .rhs file, but they serve different jobs.

OptionsMigrate moves your entire setup at once and works across operating systems and versions. Use it when setting up a new computer or upgrading from an older Rhino version.

OptionsImport merges selected settings into what you already have, and only within the same operating system. Use it when you want to pull in a few options without disturbing the rest.

Migration compatibilities

• From Rhino 8 is fully supported on both Windows and Mac.

• From Rhino 7 is mostly supported on Windows, with a few known issues about custom toolbars.
